Our Telephone Befriending Service

We received £9,750 from Awards for All to enable us to adapt our services at Refugee Roots through developing a Telephone Befriending Service. We have been able to employ Rebecca Hopkins as our Telephone Befriending Coordinator to oversee this new provision. Match funding from the National Emergencies Trust of £10,000 has given us security and confidence in being able to deliver this service.

We are supported by more than 35 volunteers who are befriending as many as 45 individuals. Support has included:

  • Weekly phone calls or video calls
  • English Conversation and English Lessons
  • Signposting and making referrals to meet the most basic needs

You could support us by volunteering as a befriender or to provide English Conversation.
