Jegan joined Refugee Roots as a volunteer in January, after applying for a placement through Nottingham Trent University.

"I managed to apply for the role as a volunteer through my university. Once I submitted the application, I was then invited to an interview. Thankfully the interview was successful! I have really enjoyed the placement because I have helped so many people whilst building great networks.

Refugee Roots are a fantastic organisation to work with, I have developed a variety of skills ever since I joined. The people are also another factor which make Refugee Roots ever so special. I have met so many kind, yet hard working people and it is such a welcoming environment. I love helping as many people as I can and I have been given the opportunity to do this at Refugee Roots.

"Sometimes, communication can be slightly difficult. Some people face language barriers, meaning that it can be challenging to communicate with one another. Therefore, being capable to speak more than one language can be useful in certain situations.

"I have truly enjoyed my time at the organisation, creating memorable moments along the way. I definitely would love to work with the organisation in the future. If you aspire to make changes to the world that we live in, I highly recommend Refugee Roots."

Volunteers like Jegan make the difference through every act of kindness.

If you are interested in helping us to make a difference in the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum, we would love to hear from you.
