Get Involved Volunteer Volunteer Stories Student Voices: Gladys’ Placement Journey with Refugee Roots Student Voices: Gladys’ Placement Journey with Refugee Roots This year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Gladys, a first-year Education student, onto a placement with Refugee Roots. Her time with us offered not just insight into inclusive education, but real-world experience working with people from diverse backgrounds. Gladys supported our English language sessions, helping participants improve their communication and English speaking skills in a warm and welcoming environment. From day one, she demonstrated patience, adaptability, and a passion for making learning accessible. Her biggest takeaway? That supporting learners is about more than language, it’s about confidence and empathy. “The placement strengthened my communication skills and taught me to think more creatively when explaining idea” she wrote. For Gladys, the placement reinforced her belief in inclusive education and helped her grow both personally and professionally. Manage Cookie Preferences
