Refugee Week 2025 Recap What is Refugee Week? Refugee Week is an annual celebration, known for being the ''world's largest arts & culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary''. This year's refugee week was filled with events and partnerships that brought us, and our participants, joy. Quick Recap of Events We started off the week with partnership events including: our weekly Run Club and The National Justice Museum. The NJM hosted a takeover event which showcased a piece of work commissioned by them and made by Refugee Roots participants. The work explored themes of hope, home and the future. The fun didn't stop there as we hosted our ''Cooking and Eating Together'' event at the Stonebridge City Farm, where we enjoyed the great weather while exploring a variety of dishes from different cultural backgrounds. Another event that a lot of our participants enjoyed was the community dance workshop for women in collaboration with Nottingham Contemporary. The workshop included experiencing and trying out different dance movements with Gulara the dance instructor who put together the whole choreography. The fun and eventful week ended with the Nottingham Playhouse Refugee Week Celebration Event and the Refugee Roots X Nottingham Contemporary Closing Party. The Importance of Refugee Week We are incredibly grateful to the partnerships we made, our participants, and everyone who joined us in making Refugee Week 2025 a true celebration of connection. That truly solidified this year's theme of “Community as a Superpower.” Let's keep the momentum going and explore the different ways you can get involved and support our work!
