Our team expands

We have recently welcomed two new support workers. Thanks to funding from Barrow Cadbury Trust  and Allen Lane Foundation we are able to welcome Fawad and Kanana to our team. Fawad and Kanana will enhance and enrich the team bringing their experience and skill. As we move towards re-opening some services their contributions will be invaluable. They will also help us to manage the significant increase and demand we have seen through the pandemic for advice, guidance and help at critical moments.

Kanana Mbogori has recently been a Research Associate at CUTS international Geneva, which is an international non-profit NGO that catalyses the pro-trade, pro-equity voices of the Global South in international trade and development debates

I come from a very international background which helps me to empathise with people from all around the world and adapt to different environments very quickly. I am excited to bring forward these qualities to this job role and I'm keen to contribute to Refugee Roots' continuous success.

Fawad who speaks Dari and Farsi, originally from Afghanistan joins our team as an Asylum Support Worker. He has been working with and continues to work with Voices in Refuge as an interpreter Fawad's interest in working with asylum seekers and refugees is partially due to his experience working with caseworkers and advisors across Nottingham and in particular at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum

We are very glad to welcome him and look forward to what he will bring to the charity as provide a place to belong.

"As I was a refugee myself and have been working for the Nottingham refugee forum for the past three years , I wanted to use my experience to help asylum seekers and refugees because I know how important it is to have support and friendship"
