Creative Collaboration with Nottingham's National Justice Museum

This Friday marks the beginning of a unique artistic journey in Nottingham, combining reflections on work, justice, and transformation. We’re thrilled to launch our new project in collaboration with Nottingham’s National Justice Museum, Refugee Roots, and our talented facilitator Elahe Raofi, funded generously by Nottingham City Council and Migrant Help.

Workshop Series: Work, Objects, and Transformation

Structured over seven powerful creative sessions, this workshop invites participants on a reflective and expressive journey. Using objects as symbolic and creative tools, each session blends drawing, painting, and writing to explore themes of personal experience and collective transformation.

Highlights of the Workshop

  • Activity Format: Each session offers a combination of reflection, group discussion, and hands-on creative work, nurturing both individual and communal expression.
  • Themes: From exploring the emotions connected to work to tackling ideas of justice, punishment, and forgiveness, these workshops confront meaningful social and personal stories.
  • Facilitator: Led by Elahe Raofi, renowned for her inspiring approach to art and transformative storytelling.

Upcoming Sessions Overview ( a template to be decided by participants)

Session 1 – The Object of Work

This Friday, the series begins at 12.30 pm, with the first session starting at 1 pm. Participants will draw and write about an object from a current, past, or desired job, exploring its emotional, historical, and aspirational significance.

Session 2 – The Object from Prison

Engage with objects from the museum’s collection, painting around the object’s shape to explore emptiness, boundaries, and confinement.

Session 3 – Opposites

Reflect on dualities such as confinement and freedom by painting a prison object alongside its imagined opposite.

Session 4 – Rejection

Through colour and form, participants will express personal and systemic rejection, culminating in the transformation of pain into emotional healing.

Session 5 – Hard Work

Create a personal “postcard to self,” embracing themes of resilience and dignity in work.

Session 6 – The Right to Work

Explore hope and frustration surrounding the right to work through calligraphy, text, and colour.

Session 7 – Punishment, Forgiveness, and Transformation

Through painting and writing, participants will imagine how unsettling objects can evolve into symbols of renewal, compassion, and growth.
