Refugee Roots are set to raise £100k

It's bold, big and brave! We have launched a campaign to raise £100k from sources other than Trusts and Foundations. We've seen a tremendous amount of growth and development over the past few years. Our highly impactful work has attracted funding that has enabled this growth, much of which was income through trusts and grant fundraising. We've also seen more individuals, partners and churches supporting our work, giving us greater capacity.

1149 participants supported

The number of participants supported has grown enormously, from 310 people in 2021-22, to 749 in 2022-23 and then 1149 from July 2023 to June 2024.  In comparison, whilst our income increased by 63% from 2021 to 2023, since then it has plateaued, meaning that we have been supporting many more people whilst not significantly extending our resources.

The past year has been a very busy, pressured and challenging time. We've seen charity partners struggle to raise funds, face reduced service delivery and even wind up. We have also experienced more difficulty with grant fundraising through trusts and foundations. At the same time one of our main funders The National Lottery Community Fund has announced significant changes to their funding criteria and requested applicants delay applying until Spring 2025. Our current grant from the Lottery is due to end on 30 June 2025, therefore creating a gap in our funds of around three to four months until an outcome from a new application to the Lottery would be received. The gap for our running costs is between £50k and £70k.

It's been a significant time for the charity as we have responded to some of the greatest needs of participants, supporting eVisa applications, working with Ukrainians and their hosts, and dealing with a stark increase in homelessness. Our volunteers, staff and trustees along with our participants have worked together to truly provide a place to belong.

What will the campaign involve?

The campaign will consist of raising funds by;

  • increasing the number of regular donors to 100 people
  • increasing one-off donations
  • growing donations from churches, schools, community groups and faith groups
  • increasing fundraising activities and events
  • developing our major gift fundraising
  • increasing corporate sponsorship
  • developing legacy giving
  • increasing sales (of products such as The Sharing Table, and services).

If you want to be involved by offering your financial support or in assisting us to meet the target we would love to hear from you.

We will soon have our £100k Campaign Toolkit which will be available soon.
