Refugee Week Celebration: Pieces of Me

The National Justice Museum, in collaboration with Refugee Roots, is delighted to invite you to a special event for Refugee Week 2026—a day of creativity, storytelling, and reflection.

• What: Meet the artist, join a creative writing workshop, enjoy a free lunch, and participate in a guided museum tour

Event Schedule

• 10:15 – 10:45: Meet Elahè Raofi, the artist behind the incredible ‘Pieces of Me: Stories from Nottingham’ Project Lab display
• 10:45 – 12:15: Join us in the Grand Jury Room for a drop-in creative writing workshop, where you'll explore themes of identity, belonging, and creativity
• 12:15 – 12:40: Share stories and enjoy light refreshments with free lunch
• 12:45 – 1:45: Embark on a guided tour of the National Justice Museum (booking required as space is limited)

Discover ‘Pieces of Me: Stories from Nottingham’

Step into the ‘Pieces of Me: Stories from Nottingham’ Project Lab display, a moving exhibition co-created by Refugee Roots participants and artist Elahè Raofi. Commissioned by the National Justice Museum, this powerful showcase brings together the stories, voices, and creativity of refugees and asylum seekers living in Nottingham over a six-month series of workshops.

Through art, poetry, textiles, and storytelling, the exhibition explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience in the face of displacement. Highlights include woven tapestries, communal tablecloths, a poetry wall, and artwork inspired by objects from the museum's rich collection. Each piece is deeply personal, reflecting not only the struggles but also the hopes and community of those who created them.
