A place to belong for Ukrainian Refugees

How you can help

For those who want cannot host, joining Refugee Roots as a volunteer will allow us to increase the number of people we can support and make sure we have the capacity for Ukrainian and other refugees and asylum seekers arriving in Nottingham.

How we will help

We will be offering befriending support to locally hosted refugees. If you or someone you know is hosting a refugee through the government scheme, we would happily assist and support them or you with additional help from our befrienders to help with needs such as:

  • benefits
  • employment
  • social activities
  • English classes
  • school

Our volunteers can help access a range of social and learning activities on offer each week with us at Refugee Roots.

Weekly art sessions, English classes, women's group and much more are open to all.

Support Work

Refugee Roots has support workers who can assist refugees and asylum seekers in Nottingham with a variety of support needs. If you are a host supporting a Ukrainian family or are being hosted and need assistance with things such as Universal Credit, bank accounts and accessing education for yourself or your children, then complete a referral form below and Refugee Roots will be in touch.

How we are helping

We are already supporting Ukrainians to access English Classes, get school places for children, help to open bank accounts, support to find employment and much more.

We are engaging with the local Ukrainian Cultural Centre to signpost and provide information on regular basis.

Information for hosting:

Hosting is a significant commitment, and we recommend reading the City of Sanctuary "Things to consider".

Please read through the government website, which has all of the most up to date information on the scheme.

Here is also a useful document for Ukrainians engaging in the scheme.
