Everyday challenges of lockdown

The Robin Hood Fund awarded £1000 to Refugee Roots for support in the outbreak of Covid 19 and in lockdown. This fund was set up to assist ‘exceptional people and projects that help individuals in need every day’ and to ‘shine a light on these vital projects and help ensure they have the funding in place to continue their work at this incredibly difficult time’.

We are responding to everyday basic needs on a daily basis with the support of 50+ volunteers of whom 35 are befriending the most isolated and vulnerable. A dedicated team of staff members and trustees are providing a place to belong in spite of our socially distant existence.

A Telephone Befriending service and Telephone English lessons ensures that those who do not have internet access can still receive support.

As lockdown eases some volunteers and participants look forward to a socially distanced meeting outdoors, a nice break from the end of a phone or a screen. For many this is not possible with no suitable or safe spaces to have social distancing encounters. We continue supporting those who need it most remotely.
